Budding Bhavanites’ Fun In The Sun

The weather is warming up, the days are longer and there’s more time to be outside, doing all kinds of things! Even though the sun is hot, it does cool things. It keeps us warm.

It makes flowers and plants grow. It even gives us vitamin D, so we can better absorb calcium into our bodies for strong bones. This is precisely why we celebrate “Fun in the sun” in Kindergarten.

The children understand the importance of sun in their lives and also the ways and means to protect them from the heat. Of course yes, with chilling and frothing lemonade to cool down! Every year, we at Bhavans, IES and Jack and Jill, celebrate the “fun in the sun” and “lemonade” day together, during the peak days of summer, shortly before the school closes down for the summer vacation.

This year, the much awaited “fun in the sun” and “lemonade” day was celebrated on the 23rd of May 2017. The children were permitted to come in cool summer clothes with their sunglasses and summer hats/caps.

They were asked to bring lemons, sugar, cup and spoon to prepare lemonade. The little ones were more than enthusiastic, when they came to school to celebrate the much awaited day. What excited them more is to show off their dresses and accessories, to their friends! A colouring activity ( LKG) and a mask ( UKG) pertaining to the day was done in the class at IES, shortly after which children were escorted to the school playground by the teachers.

Peppy music numbers were played and the children gleefully danced to the different tunes, accompanied by their teachers. Soapy bubbles were dispensed and the children fluttered around like butterflies to catch them; an enthralling sight indeed!

They were quite a few onlookers watching the children enjoy, so cute and colourful!! Later after the children were seated in their respective classrooms, the teachers prepared lemonade with the lemons and sugar brought by the children.

The little ones were served the lemonade and they savoured every drop of it. At Jack and Jill, the children had the fun experience of getting lemonade at a stall. Photographs were clicked against a colourful backdrop. And, finally the children dispersed whole heartedly, reminiscing every bit of this enjoyable day!

Also in March 2013, BSK was inspected by a team from Penta International, an inspectorate approved by the UK Department for Education (DfE) to inspect British international schools. British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation is a voluntary inspection system, monitored by Ofsted, which informs parents of students in British international schools how well the standards in these schools measure up against the standards that apply to independent schools within Britain.

Welcome to The British School of Kuwait (BSK), an international school offering the National Curriculum of England. BSK is proud of its academic, sporting and creative excellence, and for offering a very wide range of extracurricular activities. BSK was inspected in March 2013 and was granted ‘British School Overseas’ status. Read the inspection report. Our students are encouraged to become active and resilient learners, able to take responsibility for their lives, manage their inevitable stresses and look after their mental and physical well-being.

Enrolling your children at BSK is to prepare them for life. We develop their dispositions and learning-to-learn skills, the better to prepare them for a rapidly changing world with jobs and technologies that haven’t even been invented yet. American International School Kuwait fee details

14

Hamood Al-Naser Street Medan Hawalli – Kuwait, Kuwait City

The American International School of Kuwait (AIS) is a private, independent , co-educational day school serving students from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. English is the primary language of instruction although all students study Arabic or Arabic as a Foreign Language. It is an International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) World School that is fully authorized for the IB Diploma (IBD), Middle Years (MYP) and Primary Years (PYP) programmes. The school is modeled on the three divisions typical of American schooling: Elementary, Middle and High School. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also a member of the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) and International School Services (ISS). Its graduates have attended prestigious English language universities around the world. In a given year, AIS graduates attend 40-50 universities worldwide.

The school opened in 1991 after Kuwait was liberated from occupying Iraqi forces. Dr. Kamil Al Rayes, the founder, sought to create a school of high caliber with a disciplined, yet relaxed atmosphere that would provide opportunities for local and expatriate children to gain access to the world’s best universities. During the first year twenty-five teachers and 300 students dealt with shortages of textbooks and classroom supplies, an inadequate library and a skeleton curriculum. The school developed rapidly. In October of 1994 it became fully accredited and in the ensuing years dedicated professionals worked hard to develop what has become an excellent university preparatory school with 1600 students.

Dr. Kamil Al Rayes passed away in 1995 and on the occasion of his untimely passing his daughter, Mrs. Samera Al Rayes, became the Director. She has prepared for this role by obtaining a Masters Degree in education and she is currently working on a doctoral degree through Lehigh University. She and her brothers, Dr. Samer, Col. Zaher and Dr. Badri, act as the governing Board of the school. Each of the four Board Members is involved in the operation of the school with the educational side of the organization being managed by professional staff. Although the school has grown into a large operation it sustains a very open and friendly atmosphere in which staff members have easy access to the members of the Board.
